Map of Joe

The White Wheat Champion. “Joe” was named after T. Joe Martin, retired wheat breeder at K-State’s Agricultural Research Center in Hays, Kansas.

Joe is a hard white wheat with a pedigree consisting of KSU experimental lines related to Trego, Arline, and Jagger. Joe is medium-late maturity, medium-tall, with a well-stocked disease package indicating resistance to stripe rust, leaf rust, and wheat streak mosaic virus.

It also shows good milling and baking qualities. Joe is a strong variety and high yielder for western Kansas as a white wheat. Case in point: this was the variety used to demolish the record in last year’s Kansas Wheat Yield Contest. It tested well again in Kansas, Colorado and Oklahoma yielding in the top tier. It carries the WSM2 gene, offering the best resistance to WSMV available. Intermediate pre-harvest sprouting tolerance.
